As a general rule, use the following as a guide to help you determine the proper number of chips for your needs.

 

Tournament Freeze-out games use about 50 chips per player.

Tournament Rebuy games use about 100 chips per player.

Cash games with short stack buyins use about 60 chips per player (30 chip stack x 2 allowing for a rebuy).

Cash games with deep stack buyins use about 120 chips per player (60 chip stack x 2 allowing for a rebuy).
